Googling Effectively: Stopping Google From Ignoring Your Search Terms

Updated: Apr 12, 2019

Google is trained to ignore many of the most common words that are used in search terms (e.g., where, how, the, on). These are termed 'stop words'. If. however, one or more of these words is very important in your search term then you need to add a '+' sign right next to that specific term (no space between them).

For example:

If you want to read up on the band The Beatles, you would search [+The Beatles].

Google also ignores a lot of single digits and single letters, so you may need to add a '+' beside those too if your original try is unfruitful.
